The problem
Global fitness apps don't fit Filipino users: their food databases don't know sinigang from sisig, their pricing is set in dollars, and none of them support GCash or Maya. Tracking calories with them means logging local meals as rough foreign approximations — so most people stop.
The approach
I built Mayari end to end: a workout engine with plan generation and progress tracking, a Philippine food database with barcode scanning and photo-based calorie estimation, and an AI coach that speaks English, Tagalog, and Taglish. Payments run through PayMongo for GCash and Maya, with a referral discount system built for the local market. The AI features run through Supabase Edge Functions calling the Claude API — the mobile app never touches an API key.
The result
A production app in beta launch preparation, with App Store and Google Play submissions in progress. Mayari is both my biggest engineering project and a product I use every day for my own training.
